
It is important for a self-funded employer to have unbiased information on potential costs in the future rather than rely on the projections produced by a reinsurance carrier. At the time in the year when the employer receives their renewal, we will run our own analysis to examine the group’s claims trend, project claims exposure for the upcoming year, and establish estimated stop-loss costs. We will review alternative stop-loss options to determine the best arrangement to minimize cost and risk. This report also serves as the basis for budgeting costs for the renewal year, allowing groups to set reasonable expectations and use that information to make plan design and employee contribution decisions.
